Guidance on breastfeeding and exercise

No better feeling than hitting a personal record and then going to breastfeed my baby!
No better feeling than hitting a personal record and then going to breastfeed my baby!

EXERCISE AND BREASTFEEDING ARE COMPATIBLE

Tips:

avoid sports bras with high compression for extended intervals, risk of clogged ducts, mastitis, and compression for long periods CAN affect milk volume. Switch to a nursing bra ASAP when the workout is over. some research suggests moderate exercise can increase breastmilk

no extreme diets recommended! 1200 calories is only enough for a toddler. Eat to taste. A fed mama is a patient mama and a successful breastfeeder!

snacks of high protein before, during, after workout help avoid yucky blood sugar dips associated with breastfeeding and working out. Feed those gains babes!

The best exercise for a breastfeeding mom to lose weight really just depends on what helps you feel good. Breastfeeding moms can begin to exercise as soon as they are cleared to do so by their provider. Physical activity is amazing for helping avoid postpartum mood dysregulation, such as PPA and PPD. Be your best mama self by regulating your stress in a healthy manner

be cleared for exercise with your providers and LISTEN to your body. Be kind to your postpartum self

avoid dehydration. Although we can still produce milk in dehydrated states we should be better about caring for our bodies. We all probably need more to drink. Body armor does not work in the way you think it does to make more milk, but I love coconut water for the purpose of hydration, electrolytes, and some calories to keep my blood sugar regulated while I workout.

You can weightlift, run, walk, dance, whatever moves your spirit

Keep boobin' West Tennessee
